Adopt-A-Garden - Isle of Wight An Environment project from Newport, Isle of Wight by footprinttrust

We wish to train enthusiastic young people to join our Adopt-A-Garden scheme, and provide them with the tools they need to do the job. Local food will be grown, new skills learnt, and elderly people assisted. The Isle of Wight has high unemployment and levels of poverty amongst young and old. Growing food helps people to become more indepedent. The Adopt-A-Garden scheme has been contacted by a number of people who would love to get involved. The problem is that they have no experience of gardening. We aim to train 25 novice gardeners over the next year.

What is Adopt-A-Garden?

Adopt-A-Garden was set up 3 years ago. It aims to match those who can no longer look after their garden, with those who have no growing space of their own. Food is grown and shared. An uncared for garden becomes productive. Everyone has a free CRB check to keep people safe.

Over 100 people have benefited to date.

We now wish to train new would-be gardeners who have no experience but are keen to get involved and help their elderly neighbours.
