THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST An Arts project from Brighton and Hove, The City of Brighton and Hove by WeDidThis

You may know the play, you may know all the lines, but you don't know Witness Theatre.

We're a Brighton based company who work to create theatrical worlds that are powerful, provocative and utterly alive. We want to captivate our audiences so that they never want to leave the worlds that we create.

In May 2012 we want to set up camp for five days at the Brighton Fringe - a festival that is doubly important to us being in the city where Witness Theatre was born. We will adopt an unconventional space that Lady Bracknell, Cecily, Gwendolen, Jack and all the rest will call home.

We intend to transform our venue into a Victorian salon where you, our audience, will sit - take tea and cake - and become immersed in the world of the Importance of Being Earnest.

You'll witness the play and its frivolity take place all around you, as Witness Theatre play with physical comedy and stylisation to ensure you have a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

None of this fun, however, can happen without your help! The Victorian era saw high numbers of private philanthropists for the arts, let's prove that even better exists today. We want to bring back Oscar Wilde's classic with a Witness Theatre twist with funding received from you, our philanthropists.

Any donation small or large is extremely useful to us. The target sum we want to raise will be used to bring our weird and wonderful ideas into existence, with particular focus on:-

- The hire of our perfect unusual venue

- The set and props to transform this venue into our Victorian salon

- Fabric for costume pieces

We have already found a lot of support for this project and have worked out in kind deals for rehearsal space, lighting and costume design and original music composition. It now falls to you to help us in the final stages of making this project a reality. Please give as generously as you can, and we hope to see you in the salon!
