Casting Traces, The Paper Maze An Arts project from London Borough of Wandsworth, London SW11 4NP by new-movement-collective

A last effort to raise at least £1000 to help us achieve our financial target to be able to deliver this exciting project at the heart of Battersea in London. We are a a group of dancers/choreographers, passionate about finding new practice through collaboration and dedicated to deliver this original production this summer. Please help use make it happen.

The Project

Dance, architecture, film and specially commissioned music meet to create a world of illusion, mystery and shadow play, where nothing is what it seems. Touching on the popular themes of detective novels and the modern issues of ever-present surveillance, the audience explore a giant paper maze, becoming directly involved with the performance space and influencing the transformation of their surroundings. Projection and live camera feeds enable participants to meet themselves around every corner as they explore the hidden spaces of Testbed 1 - a 650sq metre former dairy in the heart of Battersea.

The New Movement Collective

Founded in 2009, New Movement Collective is a group of dancers/choreographers, passionate about finding new practice through collaboration. With a particular interest in blending boundaries between dance and architecture our aim is to discover performance potential within the hidden pockets of our cities. New Movement’s established and ongoing involvement with the Interprofessional Studio of the Architectural Association has seen us recently mounting successful large-scale events/performances in Madrid, Cologne and London.

Why we need the money

After a tremendous effort from our company members we have secured generous support from many organisations but are still short of £4000 to achieve our match funding target and deliver the performance this summer. The money will be used to pay collaborators and some of the technical material needed for the production.

Composer: Szymon Brzoska

Originally from Poland, Szymon’s particular interest is in the synergy between music, contemporary dance, theatre and cinema. His music has been presented in the most prestigious venues around the world including Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Sydney Opera House, Lincoln Centre in New York, Esplanade in Singapore as well as at the Festival D’Avignon. A frequent collaborator with the award-winning choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui scores include Dunas, Labyrinth, Orbo Novo and the hugely successful Sutra with artist Antony Gormley and monks from the Shaolin temple. Elements of Szymon’s composition will be played live during the event by violinist Linda Jankowska (Distractfold Ensemble).

Design: Architect Elin Eyborg

A graduate of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, School of Architecture, Elin was recommended as a collaborator to NMC by world-renowned architect Will Alsop. Her practice pursues the idea that theatre can be used to
