MOOT - MUSIC OF OUR TIME An Arts project from Brighton and Hove, The City of Brighton and Hove by WeDidThis

MOOT - music of our time helps people make music and audiences discover, appreciate and understand contemporary music better

Since MOOT was created audiences have experienced exciting and innovative contemporary music, some by local living composers, performed in a relaxed and friendly environment by brilliant local artists.

Next May, as part of Brighton Fringe Festival, The Musicians Body series will put a spotlight on the benefits of contemporary methods and practices for musicians, against strains and as rehabilitation following injuries, or simply as effective ways for us all to use our bodies with greater ease and power. Workshops will include simple exercises that everyone can do including breathing, singing, sitting and lying down. Everyone is welcome.

To demonstrate musical abilities at the highlest level, the virtuoso cellist Rohan de Saram (Arditti String Quartet), violist Paul Silverthorne (Principal, London Symphony Orchestra), and the composer Frederic Rzewski (The People United Shall Never Be Defeated), will play in a series of concerts, featuring music by Milton Babbitt, Sally Beamish, Luciano Berio, Elliott Carter, Frederic Rzewski, and Dmitri Shostakovich among others. Prof Helen Reid (Guildhall School of Music & Drama) will present 'Suffering for Their Art' on the psychological issues surrounding performance injuries and play a recital of contemporary compositions for piano.

MOOT is a non-profit organization but these events - even with a sell-out crowd - lose money. So this is why we need YOUR help to make up the difference and to guarantee monthly events to continue. Your contributions will help us to reach our annual target of £20,000 – to pay artists, venues, instrument hire, administration costs and publicity. Funding schemes like us to raise 10% via public funded schemes such as this. So every pound you contribute will help us raise another £9.
